Comet Comments was a monthly astronomy column created and written by legendary comet hunter Donald E. Machholz beginning in 1978.
Published for more than two decades, the column provided global updates on comet discoveries, observing reports, amateur astronomy techniques, and skywatching commentary from one of the world’s most dedicated visual comet observers.
From 1978 through 2000, Comet Comments became widely read within the amateur astronomy community and documented a remarkable era of visual comet hunting.
Historic editions of Comet Comments are currently being organized and prepared for online archival access.
Beginning soon, monthly issues spanning 1978–2000 will be published here as part of the official Donald E. Machholz historical archive.
